The versatile Ortho Bone Anchor (OBA) consists of a base-plate fixed with monocortical screws, a neck piercing the gingiva or mucous membrane, and a coronal part with hooks, tubes, or slots (brackets). Different models accommodate specific anatomical conditions. The OBA can be placed anywhere on the buccal bony surface, provided the cortex has a minimum thickness to hold the screws. Forces are applied via conventional orthodontic tools: elastic bands and chains, tension and compression springs, and orthodontic arch wires. Known biomechanical principles apply.
