A too short lower jaw is the cause of a malocclusion and a weak chin. The upper front teeth show often too much and the patient bites his palate with his lower front teeth. Orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances (brackets) can produce two perfect dental arches. These can be put in correct position to each-other by lengthening of the lower jaw. When the patient wants as little loss of sensibility, MD-DOS can be placed under local anaesthesia.

Mandibular Distraction - Dynamic Osteosynthesis System is a technique that involves surgical weakening of a bone and gradual stretching of the reparative tissue that ossifies during the expansion. The weakening and the application of the device can be done under local anaesthesia, eventually together with the removal of the (impacted) wisdom teeth.
One week after surgery, the patient receives a wrench, by which the device is activated daily, by turning clockwise, till the next color code appears. The activation lasts a few weeks, according to the lengthening that is needed.
The device is removed under local anesthesia, about three months after its placement.
